Supporting San Jose Parks, Trails, and Recreation Programs
The Vietnamese-American Community Center (VACC) operates Monday – Friday from 9am-6pm within the George Shirakawa Community Center located at 2072 Lucretia Ave, San Jose, California 95122.
Since its opening in Octber, 2016 the VACC has become a robust gathering place for members from the Vietnamese-American community, as well as residents from the larger San José community.
Program activities for Seniors 50+ include, but are not limited to, Senior Line Dance, Socialization, and various support resources.
In addition to the active adult programs, there is an after-school program for youth ages 6+; activities include: homework assistance, recreational activities and arts and craft activities.
The VACC has also become a trusted venue for hosting cultural events and celebrations welcoming hundres of attendees.
Know that the Shirakawa Community center has been a warming center for residents affected by the floods. A resource center for victims of the flood is being set up at this time.
The Vietnamese American Community in San José, California has been dreaming and planning for a cultural heritage garden for many years.
The dream is on the way to becoming true as the site for the Vietnamese Heritage Garden has been identified and plans are being made for its funding and completion.
The Vietnamese Heritage Garden, situated on 4.2 acres of land atKelly Park, San Jose, is designed as a place of tranquility where the culture and heritage of Vietnam will be cherished through art, architecture and horticulture of various plants, trees, and flowers found in Vietnam.
This garden will serve as a gathering place where people of diverse backgrounds can come together and learn more about the Vietnamese people and their history.
Reflecting the continued growth and development of the Vietnamese-American Community, the Vietnamese Heritage Garden also ambitiously serves to bridge the diversified communities, cultures and generations in San Jose.
Eventually, it is hoped that a larger Vietnamese-American Community Center will be built within the Vietnamese Heritage Garden.
